NIPT can be performed any time after 9 weeks into your pregnancy — earlier than any other prenatal screening or diagnostic test.
Should you do NIPT?
If yes, then you should get an amniocentesis or chorionic villus sampling. If not, skip the traditional screens in favor of NIPT. ACOG suggests that NIPT be offered to all pregnant women. However, they only recommend NIPT for “high risk” women.
Are NIPT test accurate for gender?
Diagnostic accuracy of NIPT for foetal sex determination is very high. The sensitivity of the test is 98.9% and the specificity 99.6%. The positive and negative predictive values are correspondingly high, 99.6% and 98.8% respectively. Diagnostic accuracy of NIPT increases with gestational age.
How much does NIPT test cost?
When they first launched in 2011, basic NIPT screens primarily provided information on Down syndrome. NIPT, also known as cell-free DNA screens, is not considered diagnostic testing, but is often covered by insurance for high-risk and some regular pregnancies. Otherwise, it can range in price from $800 to $3,000.25 Mar 2016
